Following an open application process, everyone at Octopus had the chance to vote on which charity they wanted to support for the next three years. We’re delighted to announce that Fields in Trust were chosen to be our new environmental charity partner.
What do Fields in Trust do?
Fields in Trust is the only charity in the UK working to protect parks, playgrounds, sport fields and green spaces for good. For almost 100 years they have helped protect close to 3,000 spaces – covering an area larger than the size of Liverpool – right across the UK.
Why are we excited to work with them?
At Octopus, we are committed to forging genuine partnerships with our charity partners. Our goal is to create collaborations that serve as a catalyst for change, combining our resources to make a meaningful impact on the world. We want to use our funding, skills and time to supercharge Fields in Trust’s impact on the environment, supporting them as they continue to seek recognition for the power of parks.
Public parks and green spaces are a vital cornerstone to our communities and having access to a good quality green space dramatically improves your wellbeing. Yet, according to Fields in Trust’s Green Space Index research, they found that over 6.3 million people in Great Britain have no green space or parks within an accessible ten-minute walk from home. This needs to change!
That’s why we’re excited to harness the enthusiasm of Octopus people to improve and protect our parks and bolster the amazing work the team at Fields in Trust are doing. Over the next three years, we’ll be rolling up our sleeves and working hand-in-hand with Fields in Trust, sharing our resources and our skills to build a more sustainable UK where everyone has access to a quality green space.
A few words from Helen Griffiths, Chief Executive Fields in Trust…
“We’re delighted to have been selected as Octopus Group’s environmental partner for the next three years. The partnership doesn’t just provide a generous grant, it also gives us access to the incredible pool of talent across Octopus Group. We can already see how transformational their support is going to be for Fields in Trust as we mark our centenary and focus on the next chapter not just for the charity but the millions of people who benefit from access to green space now and in the future.”
