About the Role
This is a high-profile P&L role within the business that combines product knowledge with marketing, sales, strategy and operational business oversight.
You will be responsible for setting and driving the strategy for one of our tax efficient investment product categories and will be relied on to bring this strategy to life, ensuring it is well communicated and actioned. You will have a key role to play in making sure that our cross-functional teams have what they need to make your strategy a success, including marketing, fundraising, application receipt and processing client investment experience. In order to do this you will need to be able to understand, influence, problem solve and motivate a wide variety of teams and people across our business.
You will need to build relationships with senior stakeholders around the business, with competitor and within industry forums.
To be successful in the role you will enjoy challenging the status quo, driving growth in new and existing products,, seeking to drive efficiencies or improvements, be prepared to influence internal and external stakeholders and have a thirst for knowledge. Managing a group of products requires frequent and varied decision making targeting the best commercial or customer outcome, for which an understanding of internal and external factors is typically required, along with the ability to understand and influence stakeholders whose interests may not be aligned. This is also a role that requires a deep and detailed understanding of how internal teams, processes and product features operate to enable the role to assist with the smooth functioning of the administration and client journey processes. You will need to have a proven ability to build and sustain solid relationships quickly with key stakeholders and those in the cross-functional teams that you need to steer.
Well-reasoned decision making is at the core of this role, and will range from setting strategy, prioritising resource, approving communications and solving problems. It is essential that stakeholders and colleagues at all levels are able to buy in to your decisions and that you are able to direct a high level of energy, engagement and attention to detail to make them a success.
You will be the internal and external champion for the products you manage, protecting our business and looking for opportunities to grow the market or drive efficiencies where appropriate. You will drive new product development from your own initiative and go above and beyond to build something brilliant for our customers.
You will have an eye for detail such that you are able to review and take accountability for sign-off of documentation from legal agreements to customer facing documents that reflect Octopus and your products in the public domain. You will have a strong capability to make the complex simple – and have very strong communication skills linked to this.
This is a role that combines high level decision making with ad hoc problem solving and reactive firefighting. As the owner of our products, you will not be afraid to roll up your sleeves and tackle tasks that are required at all levels, from Board engagement to copy review. An eye for detail, strong sense of ownership and willingness to muck in will always be essential.
- Previous commercial decision-making experience is essential
- Sales, marketing or investor relations related experience will be very helpful
- Tax or financial qualifications are beneficial but not essential
- You will be an excellent communicator in everything from writing engaging copy for customers to influencing and challenging senior colleagues
- You will be experienced at seeking out and implementing improvements across multiple stakeholders and teams within the business
- You will be amazing at making the complex simple: you should be prepared to understand complex product features and technical planning opportunities, and to become able to communicate these to a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders, advisers and retail clients
- You will be self-motivated and interested in constantly learning in order to improve our business
- You will be comfortable with working to tight deadlines and confident in taking a robust approach when representing the views of the business line throughout the organisation
- You will enjoy every day being different, and relish the challenge of dealing with ad hoc projects
