About the Role

Role Purpose  
Initially, the role will focus on delivering a strategic project to upgrade Octopus’ core investment management systems.  The project is being delivered in phases.  Phase 1 focuses on the selection and implementation of a new order management system (OMS).  Phase 2 will focus on upgrading the Investment Book of Records (IBOR) and related back office systems and processes.  Phase 1 is in flight and expected to deliver in the first half of 2023.  Initiation of Phase 2 will kick off in parallel with the implementation of Phase 1 and is expected to run for 18-24 months. 

Beyond the delivery of this project, there will be numerous exciting opportunities to get involved in a wide range of operating models and process improvement initiatives.

What you’ll do 

  • Project discovery and scope analysis 
  • Market research into vendor products and best practices 
  • Document As-Is business processes utilising existing documentation and working with Product, Technical, Front, Middle and Back Office SMEs 
  • Facilitate solution design workshops to design To-Be business processes working closely with vendor resources and internal SMEs 
  • Contribute to as-is and target (TOM) operating model design 
  • Analyse and reengineer processes to eliminate risks and inefficiencies  
  • Present proposals and solutions in appropriate formats and forums to all stakeholders including C suite 
  • Analyse and present the pros and cons of alternative solutions  
  • Elicit, document, prioritise and ensure traceability of requirements  
  • Produce functional specifications for any bespoke customisations or product developments 
  • Perform a range of data analysis tasks using Excel and Power Bi 
  • Document test scripts and test plans 
  • Manage system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT). 
  • Manage multiple workstreams and subtasks simultaneously and ensure progress, risks, issues and dependencies are clearly communicated 
  • Support the lead senior technical business analyst and project manager to ensure the project is adhering to key dates and deliverables. 
  • Provide industry subject matter expertise 
  • Input to request for information (RFI) and request for proposal (RFP) processes 
  • Participate in vendor briefings 
  • Define vendor assessment criteria for responsible workstreams 


What you’ll need 

  • Good level of business analyst experience in the funds and/or wealth management industry 
  • Previous experience with back office accounting systems in a funds and/or wealth management environment 
  • Previous systems implementation experience with a focus on Middle and Back Office functions 
  • Detailed understanding of the end to end investment lifecycle for listed(quoted) and unlisted(unquoted/private) equities including back office accounting and custody 
  • An understanding of MiFID II regulations and trade and transaction reporting requirements 
  • An understanding of the mechanics of equities dealing and FIX 
  • Extensive experience working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Previous experience performing SWOT/Cost Benefit/ Pros Cons analysis of systems and solutions 
  • An understanding of the core processes and responsibilities of front, middle and back office teams 
  • Understanding of CASS rules including internal and external reconciliation requirements 
  • Strong initiative, ability to work unsupervised and conduct independent research to find solutions to complex problems  
  • Extensive experience documenting and reengineering business processes 

Beneficial to have  

  • Previous experience building Power Bi data queries and dashboards 
  • Experience in business process documentation following BPMN2.0 standards 
  • Previous experience using BPM software (Signavio, Camunda, Orbus, Bizagi)  
  • An understanding of wealth management tax products. Business Property Relief qualifying (BPR) Venture Capital Trusts (VCT), Enterprise Investment Schemes(EIS).   
  • Knowledge of the Alternative Investments Market (AIM)
