Octopus Investments further bolsters institutional business with next senior appointment

27 Sep 2022

Caroline Turner named Global Head of Institutional Sales and Consultant Relations

Octopus Investments, part of Octopus Group, today announces the appointment of Caroline Turner as Global Head of Institutional Sales and Consultant Relations. Caroline will be responsible for leading the institutional sales function, supporting its strategy and the team as it continues to expand its offering to global institutional investors.

Based in London, Caroline will manage Octopus’ growing institutional sales business, strengthening the relationship between the institutional distribution team and investment function, as well as focusing on partnerships with investment consultants. She will report into Jennifer Ockwell, Global Head of Institutional.

Caroline joins Octopus following a 15-year career at Willis Towers Watson (WTW) and brings a wealth of diverse experience that spans investment consulting and strategic sales, including designing investment strategy and solutions for institutional investors. At WTW, she built relationships with some of the UK’s largest and most sophisticated pension schemes and supported the growth of the business in Germany and continental Europe. She also focused on helping clients establish their ESG values and create impact through their investments. Most recently, Caroline was in a global people leadership role, in charge of setting the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) strategy and shaping the culture of the business.

Outside of her primary role, Caroline was a member of WTW Investments’ European Executive Committee, Continental European Leadership Team, as well as the Diversity Project Steering Committee. She was actively involved in recruitment initiatives and spearheaded WTW’s Women Returners Programme; championing a smooth transition into the workplace for individuals after a career break.

Jennifer Ockwell said:

“Our institutional business is a priority area for Octopus, and we have significant plans to grow and provide holistic solutions for global institutional investors. Caroline’s vast strategic sales and management expertise, and experience of building strong internal and external relationships collaboratively in a large consultancy will undoubtedly be an asset for our team. I’ve worked with Caroline in the past, and her skills and DEI background complement our leadership team’s industry knowledge and aligns with Octopus’ values – she will be a brilliant mentor as we strive to create a team that is collectively better for our colleagues and clients.”

Caroline Turner said:

“I am excited about the opportunity to join Octopus and support its institutional growth. It was attractive as an asset manager that is shaping the way institutional investors use their capital for wider impact and it plays an important part in encouraging the savings and investment industry to continue to innovate. Octopus is also a perfect cultural fit, and its flexible and empowering environment allows mothers like me to balance work and a personal life. In addition to supporting the growth of the business, I am passionate about empowering the team to represent the best of Octopus, in parallel with coaching them in reaching their respective career ambitions.”

Caroline is Octopus’ latest institutional appointment, following the arrival of Jennifer Ockwell, Global Head of Institutional, in January 2022. Jennifer joined Octopus from Triple Point, an investment manager focused on purpose-led investments, where she served as Head of Institutional.

Octopus currently manages £5.1 billion on behalf of institutional investors, representing a core and growing business within the Group. It invests in assets and companies that are building a more sustainable planet, empowering people and revitalising healthcare.
