Challenger supplier Octopus Energy has been awarded Supplier of the Year by uSwitch.com, the price comparison and switching service.
In just two years Octopus has risen to the top of the UK energy market, and this win is the second accolade of 2018 following being named as Which?’s only recommended UK energy provider last month.
Octopus Energy achieved a 96% overall customer satisfaction score and came top in four other categories including Best Customer Service and Most Likely to be Recommended – as voted by over 17,000 UK consumers.
The Big Six have crashed to the bottom of the uSwitch 2018 rankings, with npower achieving a mere 65% customer satisfaction.
Commenting on the accolade, Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy, said:
“Octopus was founded to revolutionise the broken energy market, bringing fundamental change to the way it treats customers and the environment. We believe that customer relationships should be built on trust, transparency and respect. That’s why we built our technology from the ground up – to deliver huge price efficiencies, a seamless and enjoyable customer experience, and an accelerated transition to a clean energy future. I am immensely proud of the talented team at Octopus for this achievement.”
Challenger suppliers shake up the market
Octopus is a new entrant to the rankings, shaking up a market that has been dominated by the Big Six formerly nationalised energy companies.
Octopus Energy stands for responsible, sustainable business that puts the customer first. It uses powerful, user-friendly technology to streamline and simplify the experience of buying energy. Sustainable to its core, Octopus’ Super Green tariff supplies 100 per cent renewable electricity and full carbon offsets for gas. Its relentless focus on cutting-edge technology means it’s ahead of the curve in the energy market – unlike legacy providers.
Commenting on the rankings, Greg Jackson said,
“To have gone in two short years to being USwitch’s customers’ top-rated energy supplier, and the only provider recommended by Which?, shows that we are leading a sea change in the energy industry. With the price cap coming this year, change is inevitable – and it is challenger companies like Octopus who are redefining the way suppliers treat their customers.”
Big Six punished for predatory pricing
Overall, the energy industry’s customer satisfaction has decreased by 2.5% compared to 2017 – with particularly dramatic satisfaction decreases on price and value, following high profile political scrutiny of the Big Six energy companies’ predatory ‘tease and squeeze’ pricing tactics.
CEO Greg Jackson has campaigned tirelessly against the exploitative pricing tactics of the Big Six energy firms, which lure customers in with cheap deals before moving them onto expensive default tariffs.
He adds:
“Rather than pouring resources into fighting the energy price cap, the Big Six should take note of Uswitch’s survey and see it as a wake-up call to invest in reforming their bloated, inefficient business models and predatory pricing.”
